DR RUTH POTTS

Ruth Potts is a senior lecturer in spatial planning at Cardiff University’s School of Geography and Planning.

Originally from the sunny Gold Coast in Australia, Ruth graduated from her PhD at the Queensland University of Technology in 2015 with a focus on natural resource management planning and governance.

During her PhD she became interested in the way in which planners were using novel and innovative applications of technologies to enhance planning processes and outcomes.

Since moving to the UK in 2017, Ruth further noticed significant differences in the way in which UK planners used technology compared to those she had worked with in Australia, sparking her interest in understanding the digitalisation of planning systems.

Over the last six years Ruth’s research has increasingly focussed on understanding the way in which technology is being used to transform planning systems and aspects of daily planning practice, including public consultation, development management, policy planning, and the structure of governance systems.
